cait cut - arse'n around

…it was a cold wet and windy night in limerick city..everyone was miserable, the bar staff looked bored & resigned to a long one..the crowd was sparse, in attendance a handful of hardcore regulars and daytime tokers..the mood decidedly low key
..these things happen often enough in the life of a selector..and personally my head was somewhere else..(like home in front of the fire!)..but as the ‘show must go on’ i made the decision to entertain myself..and just ‘arse around’..hence the track title ‘arse’n around’..you can expect a virtual salad of genres spanning many decades from past to present ..recorded live @ mickey martin’s limerick for the monday night world café salon in december 2008..running time 3hours 5 minutes 34 seconds..bmc*

a first for this podcast!..it is my great pleasure to feature a friend and ‘guest’ selector ‘djs’..(that’s ‘deejay-esssss’ folks, not deejay’s!) we have had continued dialog and digital exchange for some time in this virtual medium, between limerick and seoul and each time i have never been disappointed.. quite the contrary..i have often been surprised and delighted by the calibre of selecting.. and subsequent execution in the mix..and this track is just one of many fine examples! further superlatives are unnecessary, discover for yourself the magic of the brilliantly executed:

When Cannonball Adderley introduced his first live recording at the Village Vanguard in New York to the audience, he explained the state of being of "Hip". The audiences at some of the famed rooms in California, like the LightHouse in Hermosa Beach, or the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco were in his words "Hip". "It has nothing to do with applause or acceptance, but everything to do with feel", he says. He goes on,"You get a lot of people who are suppose to be hip, and they act like they're suppose to be hip, which makes a big difference, see what I mean? Hipness is not a state of mind. It's a fact of life. You don't decide you're hip, it just happens that way, see what I mean? "
